Here’s How Much You Can Sell Your Used iPhone For & How Much A Used iPhone Is Worth | 2023 GUIDE

With the arrival of the new iPhone 15, we publish our updated guide to 2023 with reference prices for buying or selling a used iPhone.

In this article, you will find the most honest prices at which to sell your older iPhones to individuals. Knowing these prices is also useful for those who want to buy a used iPhone and want to understand if they have found a great deal on the net or if they are asking too much.

Where to sell a used iPhone?

To sell or buy used iPhones to other individuals, we recommend using Subito.it (very convenient for many reasons) mostly for online sales with shipping or Facebook Marketplace which works incredibly well for hand trading with people nearby. On the latter, it should be fairly simple to find nearby buyers or sellers, whom you can then meet live and complete the deal.

How much can I sell my used iPhone for?

For each model we indicate a price range* with a minimum and a maximum. If you have a perfect, immaculate iPhone without even the slightest signs of wear, warranty coverage, box, and so on, it’s worth setting the maximum amount below, in case there are any scratches or other signs of wear, evaluate the condition well and adjust the price accordingly (you may have to go even beyond the threshold indicated by us if the conditions are not satisfactory or if you are in a hurry to sell.. remember that there are already thousands of sales ads in these days and your proposal must attract attention either for quality or for price). We always recommend that you spend a little extra time attaching beautiful images to your sales announcement: they could make all the difference!

What can drive up the selling price?

If an ad contains a lot of details and also shows the receipt of a store with an issue date of less than 2 years, it means that the smartphone is still under warranty and this can be worth a few tens of euros more. If, on the other hand, the iPhone is covered by the AppleCare+ warranty, a higher price would also be justified.

Some ads, in addition to selling the smartphone, also include covers and other extra accessories. The average price of new cases is around €10 so if you are buying a used one (which certainly shows the signs of aging), the value of the smartphone does not go up. An exception to this are the original Apple covers, whose starting cost is higher but you must always evaluate their condition. If, on the other hand, the cases that will be sold together with the iPhones are perfectly new, you can add about €5 in value for each of them (maximum €10). For other types of accessories such as headphones, chargers and so on, you also have to evaluate, but you can spend about €10 more if there are.

Important Things to Do Before Buying or Selling a Used iPhone

If you’re selling a used iPhone or buying one, make sure Find My iPhone is turned off before restoring. In the event that the smartphone is reset and then given to someone else, without removing the “Find My iPhone” function, the new owner would have to enter the password of the previous Apple ID in order to use the phone, a password that he obviously does not know.

Unlike accessories, we recommend that you sell or buy smartphones directly in person. In this way, the buyer will be able to view the smartphone and analyze any scratches or dents that could affect the price. If this is not possible, then ask for detailed photos and ask the direct question “does it have any small scratches or dents?”

Another important thing to evaluate or be notified is the Battery Status. Just go into Settings > Battery > Battery Health to see the percentage of Maximum Battery Capacity. If the number is more than 80%, the battery is in good condition (presumably less than 2 years old). If the percentage is lower, however, be aware that the phone will run out of power quickly, so you can ask for a lower price. If you buy an iPhone with the maximum battery capacity below 80, you may need to replace the battery over the next few months or years to get good performance (depending on how much time you want to spend with this iPhone). If a seller tells you that they have had the battery replaced recently, this is certainly an added value but of course have the proof sent with a screenshot to the appropriate screen.
